A New Symbol for the Democratic Party

A New symbol for the Democratic Party

I’d like to propose that the symbol for the Democratic Party be changed from a donkey (or is an ass? I suppose it’s one and the same)) to Janus, the two headed mythological Roman god for January. In case you’ve forgotten, Janus is portrayed with two faces, one looking into the past and the other peering into the future. The perfect image for people who speak out of both sides of their mouths. Those would be the members of the Democratic Party.

In my humble opinion, this makes much more sense than their current symbol. I suppose in the years past before the internet no one could remember what the members of this party said or did with any degree of accuracy. Today, this isn’t possible since we have records made with recorders, cell phones, and who knows what all other kinds of devices with information from years past coming back to haunt those who make idiotic statements.

Former senate majority leader, Trent Lott (R-Mississippi) was forced out of office in 2002 by the Democrats for making this statement about Senator Strom Thurmond:

"I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."

Fast forward to 2009 and we now have Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) making this statement about President Obama…. (He is a) "light-skinned" black man "with no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one."

Excuse me, but isn’t Senator Reid in fact saying that the President play acts to audiences or pretends to be something that he isn’t? That’s how I read his comments, what do you get from them? The phrase “unless he wanted to have one." smacks of insincerity on the part of the President in the eyes of Senator Reid. Of course Senator Reid might be referring to Obama’s 2008 Selma Alabama speech in which then Senator Obama affects a distinctive Southern accent for the benefit of his audience. Listen for yourself and make your own decision.

Of course, Senator Reid has issued an apology and is now saying that he ‘misspoke’ and his words were taken out of context. If you believe that, I have some oil wells for sale in downtown Manhattan. Of course from the Democratic viewpoint what Lott said and what Reid said are not to be compared. These are apples and oranges not ill spoken words.
Former President Clinton also got caught making a casual remark when he said…. (of Obama)… “a few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee.” No reaction again from the far left…they see nothing wrong with any of these remarks. You can bet if a Republican had made any remark even remotely similar, the Democrats would be screaming for their heads to be lopped off and carried out on a platter for the entire world to see. But not today…no, no, no……the left wing is out in full force honoring as well as praising Senator Reid for not only his remarks but his ‘long serving’ tenure to this country.
Excuse me but according to my calculations, former Senator Lott has or had more service to this government of ours than Senator Reid does as of this date. I didn’t notice anyone from the Democratic Party rallying around Senator Lott when he was forced to step down.
As a friend of mine once said, there are two things you don’t want to see…sausage making and politics in action. I’m beginning to think I might like sausage making better.
